Can I bring deli goods with me into Thailand?
When I return to Thailand what can I bring back with me in my suitcase? I am mostly concerned about importing “delicatessens”, such as cheeses, for my personal consumption. Also, where can I find the list of restricted items?

“You are allowed to bring cheeses and other delicatessen products with you, but you must first obtain a permit from the Thai Food and Drug Administration before you enter the country.
After obtaining the permit and arriving at the airport, go through the Goods to Declare Channel, since you are bringing controlled or restricted items into the country. Be sure to inform customs officers of all the controlled or restricted items that you are carrying and present your import permit.
If the items you are bringing have a combined value more than 10,000 baht, you will have to pay the import taxes and duties at the Goods to Declare desk.
We have some instructions and examples of the import and export of certain goods into or out of Thailand on our website here.
If you have any questions, call us at 076-351124 during office hours or call our 24-hour-call center at 1164.”

“To import food into the Kingdom you will need to contact the Food and Drug office in Bangkok and the officer will need details about the food, such as the brand name, type and amount.
The officer can then explain which documents will be needed for the import permit.
If you have friends or relatives in Thailand, the documents can be sent to them along with a statement of Power of Attorney, and they can process and receive the import license from Bangkok Food and Drug office for you.
However, if you don’t have any friends or relatives in Thailand, you can inform the Thai FDA in Bangkok of which items you intend to bring with you and the flight details of when and where you will be arriving in Thailand.
That way, if your permit is approved, we can have it waiting for you at the Thai FDA office at the airport when you arrive.
For more information you can contact us on 02-5907186 or 02-5907189 during office hours. We also have a hotline you can call at 1156.”
