The Meteorological Department on Thursday issued a warning for people in the North, Northeast, Central plains, East and South to prepare for widespread scattered rain with heavy falls in some areas, the danger of floods and forest-runoff today and tomorrow.

An active monsoon trough is prevailing in lower parts of the Northeast, Central Plains, the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. It will cause abundant rain and isolated heavy to very heavy rain are likely over central, eastern, northern, northeastern and southern regions, the department said.

People living near hillsides and waterways in Tak, Kampaengphet, Phichit, Petchabun, Chaiyaphum, Amnatcharoe, Nakon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhonsawan, Uthai Thani, Lopburi, Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang Nga and Phuket should prepare for heavy rain, possible flash floods and forest-runoff, it warned.

There will also be strong wind-generated waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. All shipping should proceed with caution, the department said.
