En expat har skrevet foelgende epistel omkring Bangkok Taxis i et Facebook forum: Bangkok Taxis tips&tricks One of the most hot arguments in Bangkok is always the one about taxi drivers and their behavior. So I would like to give a couple of useful tips for those already aware more or less how taxi system works in Bangkok but they never thought why it is like this or never had the time to get informed properly. To run a taxi in Bangkok costs roughly 1,000 baht a day to the owner/driver, so assuming they work 10 hours a day 26 days per month (1 day off a week), to get a 20,000 bath monthly benefit that could be considered to be worthy for them, they need to raise 2,000 bath a day. Rough Costs 1,000 bath x 30 days = 30,000 bath police fines + maintenance = 2,000 bath / month = 32,000 baht Income 200 baht per hour x 10 hours = 2,000 a day x 26 days = 52,000 baht / month Benefit 52,000 baht - 32,000 bath = 20,000 baht So in a taxi driver mind there is 30 min. run = 100 bath 1 hour run = 200 bath That is why it starts to be a problem for them to have to go in an area with too much traffic jam, or too far from where they live and they need to go back, or an area with low chance to get quickly another costumer. Therefore, before getting in, it's always a good practice to ask if they are willing to take you to your destination. Moreover in hot and touristic spots of the city make sure they will use the meter (this is not about thai or foreigners, it applies to everybody). So if a taxi driver is rude or try to cheat on you, when you complain consider also they work in a stressful environment for long hours and for small money after all. But how to minimize this kind of problems with taxi drivers (a part from obvious suggestions you usually hear like "use uber, use grab taxi, avoid touristic areas, call 1584 to complain, slam the door as hard as you can when you get off"  ?What most people don't know, even thai, is the meaning of taxi different coloring. Well, every taxi company has a different color, and this doesn't help much. What is helpful to know instead is that full coloring (all pink, all red, all blue and so on) means the taxi is rented. Half/half coloring (yellow and green, white green, red yellow) means the taxi is owned. Yellow/green taxi are the most common and owned by the driver, so usually also the best option. Other half/half coloring belong to companies that hire staff to drive their taxi. Easy to realize now that full color taxis most likely have unprofessional drivers, short sighted on customer caring cause they might have rented the taxi just for a few days, they might don't know the city too well and they are harder to track down in case you have a problem with them. Also they could be not such a good fellas and have rented a taxi with the purpose in mind of scamming people. For some this is a way just to make some money quickly, they don't like the job, don't know how to deal with costumers, and not willing to take you at destination without extra fee. So look for new and well maintained double color taxi to minimize bad experiences, don't just catch the first you see. Owned taxi are more professional and if the owner is busy that day he will lend the taxi only to people he can trust, because the fare is still low and it is better not to keep the car parked. ja de kan sgu være nogle lede karle .. og vil jo helst rotte sig sammen 3-4 stykker da de oftest ik selv ka klare sig mod en farang |
