I sædvanlig stil vil ingen være ved hvad de dokumenteret har gjordt. Pheu Thai MP admits to proxy voting for absent colleagues Published: 25/04/2012 at 05:16 PM Online news: Local News 0Share MPs and senators sometimes vote on behalf of their absent colleagues at parliamentary meetings, Pheu Thai MP Worachai Hema admitted during the House meeting on Wednesday. "Nobody can sit for 24 hours straight at a meeting and therefore there must be rotations," Mr Worachai, an MP for Samut Prakan, said during the parliamentary meeting to discuss amendments to the constitution. "Because lawmakers' time is valuable it's necessary for them to get going at times." He said lawmakers might have duties to perform outside the meeting room. They also might have to go out to eat. Sometimes they could not return to the meeting in time and so they asked a colleague to vote on their behalf. Government MP Jirayu Huangsap, of the Pheu Thai Party, said the photograph showing an MP reaching behind him to another seat, shown by Bangkok Senator Rosana Tositrakul yesterday, needed clarification, he said. Ms Rosana said the MP appeared to be casting a vote on behalf of an absent colleague. "A check by the Pheu Thai Party revealed the seat was vacant at the time and the microphone was not connected," Mr Jirayu said. He said the issue must be thoroughly investigated as it could tarnish the parliament's image. Mr Jirayu said he would resign if the investigation finds that the MP in the photo was voting on behalf of his fellow party member. If not, Ms Rosana must apologise. Pheu Thai MP Wiwatchai Hotrawaisaya, of Si Sa Ket, admitted he was the person in the photo, but said he did not vote on behalf of the absent MP behind him. Mr Wiwatchai said he rested his arm along the back of his seat and the seat behind was vacant and the microphone was not turned on. Ms Rosana said she had no intention to turn people's attention on the voting issue instead of Democrat MP Nat Bantadtan, who was caught looking at a girlie photo on his smartphone in parliament last week. She said she was ready to cooperate in the investigation. House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont on Wednesday assigned House secretary-general Pitoon Pumhiran to set up a team to investigate the proxy voting issue. Mr Somsak said the results should be known in a week. The video clip below, uploaded on YouTube by rainbowtv100, shows lawmakers allegedly voting for their colleagues during the parliamentary meeting.
