FURNITURE giant Ikea has outraged transsexuals with an ad showing a shocked boyfriend fleeing his ‘girlfriend’ after he realises she is – a LADYBOY. The controversial commercial by the world’s biggest furniture retailer was branded "negative and stereotypical" and "a gross violation of human rights" by a Thai transgender group. It shows a middle-aged man and his girlfriend shopping in a furniture store in Thailand when she sees pillows on sale and becomes excited. Her feminine voice suddenly drops to a deep male-like baritone, leaving her boyfriend horrified. At the end of the ad, the shocked man is seen running away. In an open letter to the Swedish retail titan, the Thai Transgender Alliance slammed the 20-second advert, calling it “a parody of a weirdo” that “perpetuates a misunderstanding of transgenderism as a deceitful and deviant lifestyle”. It added that such an ad could “lead to violence and various forms of abuses such as sexual harassment”. Transgenders or ladyboys are commonplace in Thailand's fashion, beauty and entertainment industries but not officially recognised as women. The commercial entitled “Luem Aeb – "Forget to Keep Hidden" – has been shown on YouTube and on Bangkok’s trains during December and January. A marketing official at Ikea Thailand, which opened its first store in the country in November 2011, yesterday said: “IKEA has spoken to the group over the telephone and the conversation went very smoothly. “We are now drafting a letter in response.” Kilde: http://www.thesun...-fury.html Med venlig hilsen
