The children must go to school there if their mothers want to work for the GHT company. Mr. Golden Heart Anders Jensen repeatedly had the same dream when he lived in Denmark about going to help people living in a distant place called Korat in Thailand. He then sold everything he had and traveled to Thailand to live out his dream. Now he is helping girls out of prostitution and let them live their dreams. by: Christian Hempel-Jorgensen Anders Jensen is not a man of compromise. The proof is right there on his legs. Cuts and bruises after he was attacked for being straight forward about his opinions on prostitution. The scene was one of many seedy karaoke bars along the railway tracks in Korat. The guys attacking were the pimps. Back at the karaoke bar with Scandasia the evening after there is no scent of fear from Anders Jensen. For the girls its business as usual. They have put on their service smile. The pimps are not around. A leo beer, some small talk and then one of the girls gets an invitation for a job-interview at Golden Heart. Golden Heart is situated on the outskirts of Nakhon Ratchasima better known as Korat. From Bangkok it’s a three hours drive north-east, also known as Issan. In his small silk factory the girls sit very concentrated and do their specialized part of the big weaving process. For an outsider it can seem rather complicated but the result is clear. In the baskets boxing shorts, ties, shirts and bracelets are piling up ready to be send to Denmark. Keeping families together “First of all we give the girls a job. Secondly we give them a better salary than they could get elsewhere. A condition for getting a job here is that the girls keep their kids at the nearby school, which we are about to open. The young mothers come here with the kids in the morning, and can take them home at the time they would normally have to go to work in the karaoke bar,” Anders Jensen explains. Right now 12 girls are working at the factory trying to keep up with orders. And orders are starting to come in fast. Buying products from Golden Heart mean that you also get a membership to the organization. Right now the bracelets with a small golden Buddha attached to it is very popular. The price starts at 150 Danish kroner (900 Thai baht) and for that amount you send out a message, and you support a project where administration is at a minimum, and the money actually seems to support those in needs. Anders Jensen is more a man of action than a dreamer. But it was a repeated dream just one and a half year ago about a place called Korat, that made him go to Thailand. He had never been to Asia before, but he sold all he had. He went to Pattaya and saw the sad bar scene before he went up to Korat and made plans. Back in Denmark he build up a backbone of volunteers and Golden Heart is now building up the organization in Korat. Entrepreneur and social worker There is more Peter Schmeichel than Mother Theresa about Anders Jensens appearance. You get the impression that Anders Jensen manages Golden Heart like a business concept. This is not a social centre where prostitutes come to drink coffee and smoke cigarettes, while social workers sit listening to the sad story. People come to work and for Anders Jensen its practical problem solving all the time. “Its quite simple. I just felt that in this field I could do the biggest changes. I didn’t have any specific knowledge about prostitution, but when I came here I met so much misery in Jomtien and Pattaya and felt that this is where I can make a difference. The girls are treated as what they are – employees. If they do something wrong, I will tell them in my way. I don’t pay too much attention to Thai customs versus Danish customs. I can be very direct and I say what I feel. If I don’t I will get nowhere. The girls got to work so we can earn money and by doing that help more girls” the 38 years old entrepreneur and self made social worker Anders Jensen says. World famous in Denmark Anders Jensen and Golden Heart are actually planning to help a lot more girls. The goal is to open not less than 15 factory outlets and schools in Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. The target is to do it within four years. It sounds very optimistic indeed. But the next factory and school is soon to open 30 kilometers from Korat. There will be space for 100 workers and 200 students in the adjacent school. “Its possible because the Danes want to help. Especially when they know that it’s not all eaten up by administration. One day a guy called Frederik called me up and asked if he and his girl friend could come out and help. It took me some time to find out that it was Frederik Fetterlein and his girlfriend Saseline Soerensen who wanted to join the project in Thailand,” a laughing Anders Jensen says. The couple came to Thailand and worked with Anders Jensen for two months. Saseline Soerensen has designed some of the products and now back in Denmark they are busy organizing events to promote Golden Heart. Newspapers have written about Golden Heart. Last week Golden Heart was in the morning news in Danish television and Danish celebrities like Nik and Jay, and Mikkel Kessler are giving a hand for the project. In July a big event on Danish television is being prepared. Promotion means donations so maybe the goal of 15 factories doesn’t seem that far away anymore. Jeg har noteret mig, at Golden Heart har ændret deres strategi, ( http://www.golden...tikler.php )og har lagt de artikler der findes om foreningen Golden Heart på deres webside, men de har dog undladt de mange tråde deres findes om denne organisation.
