BANGKOK, June 29 A woman was killed in Bang Kapi, Thailand, after a giant metal
billboard crashed down on the noodle stand where she was eating.
All of the other patrons of the stand managed to escape after the owner warned
them that strong winds were making the board's supports rattle violently, the
Bangkok Post reported Friday.
The winds also toppled trees and broke numerous high-voltage power poles,
causing widespread blackouts and one other reported injury.
Police has to use a crane to remove the billboard and retrieve the body of the
unidentified woman, who was said to be in her 20s.
Bang Kapi district chief Prasert Thongnun told the Post the owner of the
billboard would face legal action since the permit for the structure had
expired. The poles were also not completely secure, he said.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration also ordered that all billboards be
inspected and any in violation of breach safety standards be removed.
