The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has organized a “Stop Human Trafficking” campaign in all regions of Thailand, in an effort to raise awareness about the human trafficking problem among Thai people. The campaign began on June 20 in the northern province of Chiang Rai and over the weekend it arrived here in Pattaya. Police Colonel Nopadon, the Chief of Pattaya Police joined a parade which started at the Royal Garden Plaza and made its way to Walking Street to spread the message that both victims and witnesses to suspected acts of human trafficking can dial 1300 for assistance around the clock. Statistics compiled by the International Labor Organization state that 2.5 million children worldwide become victims of human trafficking each year. Out of this number, 1.39 million are in Asia.
